Getting Started

Essential to begin working with P&K 3950 is the Measured values dialog in the menu Measured Values / Edit. In this form, at least a minimum of 3 value pairs are to be entered e.g. in C1 and C2. Press + for the first empty line, then set the focus into C1 and enter the first number; press TAB and enter the second number; another TAB appends a new row and selects C1 (see AutoIns). After entering all data one has to make sure the proper X-axis and Y-axis are selected and no row contains a deaktiv in S. More about the Measured values dialog.
The Column S stands for Status or Symbol. A record can be assigned to a Symbol, which can be defined in the Menu Measured values / Symbols. The first and the last Symbol have special meanings in the calculation, the others are free of choice. The Symbols can be named, which will show in the graphic legend and Report.
Well, you don't like our predefined names and the relationship between the columns of your project is much more complex. The dialog Column settings can probably help (right mouse button click onto column). Here you might introduce your own title settings and even enter a formula to interconnect the columns.
A Click onto OK closes this dialog and shows the data graph.
By selecting Files Of Type *.RGT in the File Open dialog, a simple ASCII file with the extension RGT containing the value pairs in each line and a space as separator, data can also be imported directly. More about the data format.. An Import of CSV or TXT files is also possible in the Measured values form
For regression related parameter, the form Regression parameter is the next place to go. The button Auto f(x) executes the function comparison including a significance test between the linear and quadratic expression. The confidence interval and tolerance interval calculation can be switched on in this form and will be shown accordingly in the outputs. The Inquiry block allows to find any corresponding value on the graphs. For the comparison with a predefined function, those parameter can be entered, when Set Coefficient is checked. In this case, both graphs can be shown by checking Curve of measured data.
It is possible to define some limits and have the projections drawn. These limits can be defined in Regression / Characteristics. The six rows contain predefined settings, which will get expanded, when entering a value into (State of operation) or (Standard Sate) or each line can be defined independently. If the projections are in the proper range, then the projections will be shown in the graphic. Need a calculator? Try a right button click.
When you click OK, the log window will pop up. Annoyed, disable this in Options. The log can also be viewed in Regression / Log.
The graphs are drawn in the range of validity only. An Extrapolation and axis settings can be set in Regression / Output Setup. Also in this form, a second X-axis and the parameter for the List of function values can be defined.
The layout of the curves can be modified in Regression / Line Properties. See also Graphic Resolution.
The graphic can be zoomed; therefore a rectangle has to be opened with the mouse from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. To reset the zoom, a rectangle from the lower right corner to the upper left corner has to be opened with the mouse. Also the graphic can be moved; therefore the graphic is to be dragged with the right mouse button pressed.
Ready for documentation? The menu item Report generates your document (a portion of it, at least). First, you will be ask - better read that, then a HTML document will be created and shown in your default Internet Browser. The order, what elements are include and some layout settings, can be set in Options. If the print out of the browser isn't good enough, this document can be imported into almost every Word Processing program and there manipulated. The graphic can also be transferred into your preferred program via the clipboard. This would be the menu item Edit. More about this in 5. Outputs (report).
For an easy startup, one or more sample files are supplied with the program in the program folder. The program is designed to initially show the folders Sample(s) and/or Beispiel(e). This feature does not work on all windows versions, in such a case one has to navigate to the program folder (e.g. c:\Program Files\P&K\....).
